Inspiration sites

It is a long time since we don´t tald about Design. Let´s go!

Via Vecindad Gráfica I findt the week blog, Evasee, I like from that site PseudoPseudo (see over), brilliant!

In the tipographci line there´s Watafak (over). Can you do this just with a type and three colours? Lastly from this website a Flickr portfolio, Mari_Dsn (down).

But the most amazing notice for me this week is the rumanian site Design Collector, it is very well organized, has miniatures, good links... You can make a big walk here. I don´t see many of these, at least in Spain. Great job!

Actionscript Feeds, what do you read?

Anyone of us, working with Flash, Actionscript, Flex or Air, have to be informed about new technologies continuously. I wonder which Feed aggregator do you use.

I usually take a round in MXNA . I couldn´t talk about any other aggregator firstly. I think it has to be updated. Sometimes it takes a lot of time to load, it indexes late or has errors. You can see MXNA has his Macromedia name still. In its favour I will say it is the one that has more blogs aggregated, with statistics and cathegories.

PLANET RIA is more near RIAS, as InsideRIA does, although I tend to see O´reilly blogs very serious, they should not be a book. Specialized in Flex: Flex RIA

FULLASAGOOG Perhaps the best one, more technical, I would say more relevant Actionscript bloggers are here. Actually we´re seeing each day more posts about mobile, Air and Flex than before. Great notice! Not too much about Design. Bad notice!

Feed Squirreel and FlashBookmarks, I think this last one is the best for reading. You don´t let the website, it should have more feeds, more blogs and statistics to be perfect.

MyFeedz, from Adobe, a curious experiment, do any of you use it? I don´t.
Take a look to Adobe RSSo Feeds, and to ZDNet

Some aggregators others use: Google Reader, RSSReader, Simple-RSS, FeedReader, BlogLines, Netvibes, it is not the same but keep and eye on Adobe DelIcio Links and Actionscript ones.

So: Do you mind having a lot of windows opened? O don´t, but I´d rather seeing everything in one window and if possible faster, with the original design, is a question of opinion...

Comet, special mention in Wellcome Collection, bd4d

I took part in the contest of interactive piezes for the Wellcome Collection website with the leit-motive bd4d Medicine, Life, Art.

So, I have won a little e-voucher for it. You can see the Contributors here, some as good as Yonatan Yuen. My piece here.

I did it like this: Just some games with arrays moving radomly around the stage. There´s no timeline at all, except the preload (3 frames). If I had to do it now I would remove the photos cos I don´t see them with the look&feel ot the pieze.

Long life for Multimedia!

Einsmann´s blog, another Devigner

Following with the term Devigner:

This is not a links´ farm as you know. Actually, I´m quite dissapointed about sites as Artegami, TheError, EjeZeta or ArtesVisuales (at least in the spanish version of MXNA) because the only thing they do is collecting links and links so that we click on their AdSense. Oh my God! What do they want? No comment...

In fact I like exploring websites as a hole. I came across yesterday with the blog of Einsmann,
where I spent about one hour surfing.

This surfman is truely a "devigner". He is working for the sowaited Thermo. But the thing that calls my attention most from his blogsite is how prolific he can be (about more than 20 posts in one month) and not precisely as the trash link farms I mentioned before.

I liked very much the tipographic galeries of Flickr, Nago, the interview with Yugop Nakamura, the designers´ rules, the ten comandments about usability (taken from SmashingMagazine, so called website here as FreelanceSwitch), the webTrendMap2008 and portfolios as WeAreAka and ISO50

This kind of people shoud be in charge of Adobe Design Centre for example.

Future of Flash: Are you a devigner?

I´m gonna give my opinion about the future of Flash, Flash CS4, relating last posts seen in MXNA and FoolAsAGoog.

The issue begins with Corban Baxter making reference to posts of Reflektions and Aral Balkan. Corban talks about "the magic of Flash", he says it is finishing his golden days with the new version of Actionscript. What is it the magic of Flash? You should ask him, I think it is related to the skill of Flash so developers and designers can work together.

Corban talks about the difficulty of migrating to Actionscript 3 for designers, specially about OOP. He also talks about the new community of developers that Adobe is building (Flex). Finally he says that we will see less designers migrating to developers in the future.

Lee Brimelow answers him in Flashblog. I think he is not as clear as other will be. It is not so hard to recognise that Flash CS3 is thought for developers, all of us know!

He also talks about future aims of Adobe, one of them is not to improve the Actionscript Flash Editor cos programmers use the Flex one. Well, I know some of them using FlashDevelop or Eclipse.

For those like me coming from Design there is nothing new here. If I were the head of Adobe, I would be very happy of building such a big community of developers because in the long term they will have a great influence in the tecnological development of applications in companies and therefore in the penetration of Flex against his competitors (Ajax, Silverlight). This is called Marketing, and I think this movement is good for Flash and for Adobe: Air, Flex, Flash CS4, Thermo... All of them are coming. How many Java developers are migrating (or learning) Flex? I could not say!

What´s up with Flash designers?
I tend to think that migration process is changing. Before we had Flash designers becoming Flash developers. Now I think the jump is too high, even more knowing a designer should learn OOP. So it could change from Java developers to Flex (Actionscript 3).

On the while, we are looking forward to hearing for Thermo. We don´t know even how the design community will answer about it. I don´t think it will replace Photoshop although it can be a good tool (for example for better skinning of Flex applications).

So, there´s a new concept called Devigner, I don´t know who exactly was the first to use it, perhaps Ryan Stewart, althouht he talks more about the Flash workflow. Whoever it was, the ecuation is this:

Devigner = Developer + Designer

Wich percentage is there of developer and designer? I couldn´t say. The separation between Design and Developing is becoming bigger. A devigner seems to me a developer who can design a bit. On the contrary we wil have a desigloper as they say in Adobe Forums.
